My physical therapy practice integrates a traditional, yet nuanced, understanding of biomechanics and a variety of manual therapy techniques including CranioSacral Therapy, myofascial release, and visceral manipulation, with yoga and a deeper understanding of pain science and the energy systems in the body. I take time to listen to and understand each person’s story and integrate my findings into care that involves education and empowerment so that my clients feel guided and supported on their healing journey rather than disempowered and unheard. A session may include exercises, manual therapy, or meditation and will always include education and listening.
Cranio Sacral Therapy (CST) is a non-invasive technique used to assess and address imbalances in the craniosacral system which includes the bones, soft tissue, and cerebral spinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord. CST involves light touch from the therapist on the body of the client often on the head and the sacrum, the bone at the back of the pelvis, but also on other areas around the body. The therapist will feel for the rhythm of the cerebral spinal fluid much like assessing for a pulse from your heartbeat. This assessment can detect disruptions due to tension or other blockages affecting the system and works to restore ease and balance.
Therapeutic yoga offerings range from developing an individualized home yoga practice that can be modified periodically if desired, to 1 on 1 yoga sessions - each unique based on the feeling and energy of the day. Therapeutic yoga sessions may include meditation techniques and energy work, breathing practices/pranayama, postures and movements/asana, and philosophical discussions.
Pelvic health work includes internal and external manual therapy and energy work to address pain, incontinence, and other dysfunctions. Scar tissue remediation and massage may be used for pelvic or abdominal scarring. Visceral Manipulation can be useful postpartum as the abdominal organs have undergone remarkable shifts in size and position. Some pelvic health sessions may include energy work as part of the Holistic Pelvic Care (™) I provide. Pelvic care is not limited to pregnancy and the recent postpartum - this work is valuable at any stage of life.
